Roots Youth Ministry
6th - 12th Grades
Roots Youth Ministry here at Ebenezer always has a full calendar. They are busy not only with their weekly gatherings, but they are busy with outside events like Resurrection Conference, mission trips and service days, retreats, lock-ins, concerts, music festivals, and much more.
Roots Youth Ministry has two regular scheduled weekly gathering times throughout the school year. On Sunday evenings, youth meets at 6:30pm, and it lasts until 8:30pm. During this time, they worship in song, spend some time in scripture, have discussion, and play games. It is a full night of fun with worship and games. On Wednesday evenings they are a part of the church-wide programming. Wednesday dinner is at 5:30pm and needs reservations; however, if a youth comes to eat and stays for the programming, I will cover their dinner, but they still need a reservation. After dinner they spend time discussing current events and social justice issues, and they talk about how scripture and our faith intersect with these issues. Wednesday evenings conclude at 7:30pm.
For the youth, Ebenezer has two Sunday School classes. Both classes meet at 10:00am on Sunday mornings in our annex building. The Middle School Class is for grades 6th, 7th, and 8th. We also have a High School Class which is for grades 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th.
For each weekly gathering, and special event, there is a great team of volunteers who are with our youth on a rotation to spend time in fellowship, but also pour into the youth spiritually. Roots Youth Ministry is blessed to have a strong group of volunteers.
Roots Youth Ministry's Student Minister is Chris Lee. He grew up in Sevierville, TN and graduated from Sevier County High School. He then continued his education at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, TN. While in college he married Anna, began his work in worship and youth ministries, and graduated in 2005 with a B.S. in Church Vocations. Chris and Anna, soon after, moved to Murfreesboro where Chris was a full-time youth minister, and Anna commuted to Nashville to continue her education at Vanderbilt Divinity School. After Anna's graduation from Vanderbilt, they looked to come back to the Holston Conference, and Chris has been serving here at Ebenezer since July 2010. When Chris is not at the church, he is writing music, spending time with Anna, playing with his three nieces, or watching or playing sports.
If you have any questions about our youth ministry, whether it is about becoming part of the program, about volunteering with the ministry, or any general questions, please contact Chris Lee at the church or by email at .
