Serving Others
Our church is very involved in service projects in our community, our state,
our country and even around the world. Our Outreach ministry area includes
several small groups for adults with some opportunities for youth mission
work as well. Currently we have individuals of all ages participating in
these ministries. We try to be attentive to the needs of others locally,
regionally and globally. We have several teams of individuals involved in
missions. If you would like more information on any of the ministries
listed, please telephone or e-mail the church office by clicking on the ministry
title, and our administrative
assistant will forward your contact information to the appropriate team
leader.
Family Promise helps families in transition get reestablished. For one week each quarter our annex is turned into a home for
these families in transition. Learn more at

This team meets with former prisoners at the Central Baptist Church in
Bearden each Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.
Ten of the Kairos Team have a Reunion with prisoners in the Chapel at Morgan
County Correctional each month on the fourth Saturday evening. There are
also four day Prison Ministry sessions. One must attend a preparation
meeting to learn more about this ministry to participate in the four day
Prison Ministry sessions. Learn more at
http://www.okumcministries.org/CJAMM/Kairos.htm .
Warm-Up Knoxville is a crochet/knitting group that makes afghans for people
in need. To participate in this group you do not have to be able to attend
the meetings. Just knit or crochet 7 x 9 inch "squares" and deliver to the
church office. Our needs are 4 ply 100% acrylic yarn. Any donations
would be gratefully accepted because it takes a lot of yarn to set the
afghans together. Donated yarn can be left at the church office. The group
meets once a month away from the church at a member's home. Learn more at
http://warmupamerica.com/ .

Women's Prison Ministry departs from the church on Wednesday nights.
Females over age 18 interested in participating with this ministry must
receive clearance by the Department of Corrections prior attending. Please
request a form from the church office.
The Women's Prison Ministry needs used paperback or soft cover Christian
books. Books targeted for new Christians would be great. Please leave book
donations at the church office with a note stating they are for WPM. Thank
you.
Water Angels Ministries is a non-profit Christian ministry providing help to
the homeless and offering hope to the hopeless in the Knoxville area. About
one Sunday afternoon per quarter EUMC provides a snack, a meal and a worship
experience featuring music and a message. The main goal is to supply
individuals with information about Christianity while concentrating on their
physical needs which include shelter, food, water and clothing. Learn more

Samaritan's Purse is associated with the Billy Graham organization. They
send shoeboxes filled with toys, books, small gifts, wrapped candies, socks
and toiletries to children throughout the world for Christmas. We begin
collecting our shoeboxes in October. Learn more by visiting

Each June the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church has it's
week long annual Conference meeting. Churches throughout our conference are
presented with a challenge to fill plastic buckets with a requested supplies
list. The list is specific for the number of items and sizes that will all
fit within the bucket. One year the buckets were to feed a struggling family
with basic staples for a week and were presented along with a pot to cook
the food in! Another year the challenge was to provide school supplies to a
country struggling to provide an education to the children. Wonder just
what our project will be this year!
A favorite mission project of our Children's Ministry team is Nothing but
Nets. Love offerings during Vacation Bible School and other Children's
ministry team events are often sent to this cause. Our UMW recently
sponsored open house in the Children's area by making a donation to Nothing
but Nets for every family that participated in the tour. Learn more by
visiting http://www.nothingbutnets.net/. Contributions of $10 buys a bed
net, distributes it to a family and provides education on how to use it to
prevent malaria. To learn more about malaria initiatives of The United
Methodist Church, visit http://www.umc.org
